Finally the much awaited Mahindra and Mahindra sub-compact SUV – KUV100 has launched. This car is an alternative to the hatchback and till now has no real competition. Its real competition will be the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis that is expected to launch in the second half of the year. Maruti Ignis is expecting to be the perfect competitor of Mahindra KUV100. Starting with the sizes, then KUV100’s length is 3,675 mm, breadth is 1,715 mm and height is 2,385 mm (along wheelbase). Maruti Suzuki Ignis has the length of 3,700 mm, breadth of 1,660 mm and height of 1,595 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,435 mm and has the ground clearance of 180mm. KUV100’s petrol variant will come in 4.42 lakhs and its diesel variant will cost 5.22 lakhs. Maruti Suzuki Ignis official prices are not announced but this car in already launch in Japan and there it cost in the range of Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 10.29 lakh. But seeing Indian competition, the cost price will lie in the range of INR 4 to 6.5 lakhs
Designing Structure and Engine of Maruti Suzuki Ignis and KUV100
Coming to powering and fuelling, then both the car is available in two engine options. Mahindra KUV100 has 1.2-litre petrol G80 mFalcon engine and 1.2-litre D75 mFalcon turbocharged common-rail diesel engine. Its petrol engine can chunk power of 82bhp and torque of 114Nm. Talking about Diesel powering, then this engine is capable of delivering 77bhp power and 190Nm torque. 5-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission system available. Talking about Maruti Suzuki Ignis, 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine and 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine is expected to power the Indian version of this car. As a transmission system, 5-speed manual gearbox is expected. Also, CVT gearbox is expected.
Comparison based on Features and Specifications
Kuv100 is the smallest .vehicle of Mahindra, whose design has inspired from Mahindra XUV500 and has features of SUV like roof rails, sunglasses-like headlamp cluster, under body plastic cladding, sleek grille with chrome inserts etc. On the other hand, Maruti Ignis has a boxy appearance with many SUV features. It is based on Suzuki i-M4 concept. It has got a unique designed front that has smart grille embedded with DRLs and headlamps with projector units.
